Cut the grid into rectangles — one number each, area equal to the number

Updated Sep 17, 2026

Start CreatingNo account needed

Shikaku asks you to partition the whole grid into rectangles so that each rectangle contains exactly one number and has an area equal to that number. A 6 becomes a 1×6, 2×3, 3×2 or 6×1 block, and choosing between those options is the entire puzzle. It is a rare logic puzzle that rewards thinking about factors and space rather than sequences, which makes it a good bridge between maths and geometry work. Sizes are 6×6, 8×8 and 10×10, each exporting as a printable PDF with the answer key.

Why use Puzzone

Factors and Area, Disguised

Each clue is a number that has to become a rectangle, so solvers reason about factor pairs without being handed an arithmetic worksheet.

Three Sizes

6×6 for a short solve or a young solver, 8×8 as the standard, 10×10 when you want a real one.

Exactly One Partition

Every puzzle is generated from a valid partition and verified, so the rectangles resolve one way only.

Frequently asked questions

Divide the entire grid into rectangles. Every rectangle must contain exactly one of the given numbers, and its area in cells must equal that number. No cell is left out and no rectangles overlap.
