Hashiwokakero — connect the islands, cross nothing

Bridges, known in Japanese puzzle magazines as hashiwokakero and often shortened to hashi, gives you numbered islands and asks you to join them with horizontal and vertical bridges. Each island takes exactly as many bridge ends as its number, at most two bridges run between any pair, bridges never cross, and when you are done every island must be reachable from every other. That last rule, connectivity, is what separates it from ordinary counting puzzles and makes the endgame interesting. Sizes are 7×7, 9×9 and 11×11, each with a printable PDF and answer key.

Why use Puzzone

Counting Plus Connectivity

Two very different kinds of reasoning in one puzzle: local bridge counts, then a global check that nothing is stranded.

Three Sizes

7×7 to learn it, 9×9 as the standard, 11×11 for a long solve.

One Valid Network

Every puzzle is generated from a connected layout and verified, so exactly one bridge network satisfies it.

Clean in Print

Single and double bridges stay distinguishable in black and white, with the solution on its own page.

Frequently asked questions

Connect islands with horizontal or vertical bridges so each island has exactly the number of bridge ends shown. No more than two bridges join the same pair, bridges may not cross each other or pass through islands, and the finished network must connect every island.
