Find the hidden fleet from the row and column counts
Updated Sep 17, 2026
Solitaire battleships, also published as bimaru, turns the childhood game into a one-player deduction puzzle. A fleet of known size is hidden in the grid, the numbers along the edges say how many ship segments sit in each row and column, and a few segments are revealed to get you started. Ships never touch, not even at a corner, which is the rule that does most of the work: every located ship clears a border of water around itself. Grids are 8×8 or 10×10, each exporting as a printable PDF with the answer key.
Why use Puzzone
Known Fleet, Hidden Positions
The fleet composition is printed with the puzzle, so solving is pure deduction rather than search.
Two Grid Sizes
8×8 for a shorter solve, 10×10 for the classic fleet and a longer one.
No-Touch Rule Does the Work
Because ships cannot touch, each confirmed segment gives you a ring of water — the deductions cascade.
Print-Ready with Key
Ship shapes and water markers stay legible in print, and the solution is on its own page.

Frequently asked questions
A fleet of given sizes is hidden horizontally or vertically in the grid. The numbers beside each row and column give the count of ship segments there, ships never touch each other even diagonally, and the revealed segments are correct.
